Loctite 10 Oz PL 530 Mirror, Marble & Granite Construction Adhesive is easy to apply and is designed specifically for mounting mirrors. This high-performance adhesive provides a safe, strong and permanent bond to most types of mirrors.
Can be used on most structurally sound interior surfaces such as wood, metal, drywall and other painted surfaces. Do not use on overhead applications. It is not recommended for mounting on wallpaper surfaces. Can only be used on electro-copper plated mirrors. Only for use with a securely mounted permanent support system, such as "L" hangers or "J" channels, during and after cure.
Tools Typically Required:
Utility knife, caulking gun and tool to puncture inner seal of cartridge.
Safety Precautions:
Interior applications require ventilation to the outside during application and cure. Wear gloves.
Wash hands after use.
Preparation:
The temperature of the adhesive, the surfaces and the working area must be between 40°F - 100°F (4°C - 38°C),
however for best results, temperatures between 15°C – 30°C (60°F - 85°F) for 24 hours or longer are recommended before installation. Be very careful not to scratch or damage the back coating of the mirror. Ensure surfaces to be bonded are clean, dry, structurally sound and free of dust, grease, oil or other contaminants. Concrete surfaces must be painted to prevent caustic lime from attacking the mirror backing. Prime drywall and plaster surfaces.
For painted surfaces, lightly sand with coarse sandpaper. Cut off tip of cartridge at 45° angle to give a 1/4” (6 mm) diameter bead. Puncture seal inside of nozzle. Protect surrounding areas and floors from drips, squeeze outs etc. Install plastic holders or clips or support channel prior to the application of the adhesive.
Application:
Using a caulking gun, apply adhesive to back of mirror in 2 to 3 inch (5 to 7.5 cm) diameter spots approximately 1/2 inch (12 mm) thick for every square foot of mirror. Do not place the adhesive too close to the edge to prevent squeeze out. A support system, such as plastic holders or clips must be used to hold mirrors in place. Place mirror in position in supports and carefully press into place within 10 minutes of application. The adhesive should be compressed so that it is approximately 1/8 inch (3 mm) thick. Do not attempt to remove or reposition the mirror once in place. Brace top of mirror to hold in place while the adhesive cures, usually 48 hours. Maximum bond strength is obtained when the original bond is preserved. Typically, PL® 520 will cure to 60% strength within 48 hours at normal room temperature. Total time required for curing depends upon temperature, humidity, porosity of substrate and amount of air that can reach the adhesive. For non porous surfaces longer curing time will be required. If sealing the edges wait a minimum of 7 days.
Clean-up:
Clean tools and uncured adhesive residue immediately with mineral spirits or paint thinner in a well-ventilated area to the outdoors. Cured adhesive may be carefully cut away with a sharp-edged tool.
Storage & Disposal:
NOT DAMAGED BY FREEZING. Store away from heat, flame and spark in a cool, well-ventilated place at room temperature (70° ± 5°F). In cold weather, product should be kept at room temperature for at least 24 hours prior to use to improve extrusion. Use an approved hazardous waste facility for disposal.
