Surface Preparation General – All surface areas to be painted should be clean, dry, sound and free of all ice, dirt, grease, oils, waxes, mildew and any other surface contaminants that can cause paint failure. Dirt and chalk should be thoroughly removed by scrubbing with warm soapy water. Surface wax should be removed with a commercial wax stripper. Grease residue should be removed with Corotech® V610 Citrus Cleaner. Remove all loose chipping, cracking and peeling paint from previously painted surfaces by hand scraping, sanding, wire brushing and/or by use of power tool cleaning methods such as electric sanders, grinders, etc. Remove any loose rust, mill scale or rust deposits from metal surfaces by the same methods described above in accordance with SSPC – (Steel Structures Painting Council) specifications for the proper surface preparation of metal surfaces. Freezer-Kote has rust inhibiting properties, however rusted areas should be double coated for maximum rust inhibition. Repair/replace any seriously damaged and/or delaminated surface areas. Lightly feather sand all rough paint edges to adjacent surface area. All glossy surface areas should be lightly sanded to effectively dull any existing sheen and create a more suitable surface for painting. 

Mildew – Surface areas affected by mildew should be thoroughly hand scrubbed with a soft to medium bristle scrub brush and a solution of one cup Tri-Sodium Phosphate or a non-ammoniated detergent cleaner mixed with one part household bleach* and three parts warm water, per gallon solution, Allow solution to stand on the affected surface areas for approximately 10 – 20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow 24 – 48 hours to dry. *Follow bleach manufacturer’s instructions for safe handling and use of bleach solution.

Freezer-Kote is self-priming, showing good adhesion to masonry, ferrous metal, wood, plasterboard. Not recommended for Galvanized metal. Metal showing rust or newly blasted, may show rust bleed. Freezer-Kote has rust inhibitive qualities, however the use of a primer should be considered for bare steel surfaces.

WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH-approved respirator to control lead exposure. Carefully clean up with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop. Application - Stir contents thoroughly and apply as is from container with brush, roller or spray. Apply to surface while under refrigeration down to -40°F. Use Freezer-Kote as its own primer if two coats are necessary. 

Cleanup - Clean with Ethanol or Denatured alcohol. USE COMPLETELY OR DISPOSE OF PROPERLY.   This product contains organic solvents which may cause adverse effects to the environment if handled improperly. Emptied containers may retain product residue. Follow label warnings even after container is emptied. Residual vapors may explode on ignition. Disposal of wastes containing either organic solvents or free-liquids in landfills is prohibited. Local disposal requirements vary; consult your sanitation department or state-designated environmental agency for local disposal options.
